What Have I Done?

Over the past few years, finally in the corporate environment, I’ve found that I’ve had so much potential, but still not enough finished or published projects to really PROVE it. Every time I’ve done a site, while it works perfect and seamless, I always seem to have learned a new technique while working on it, where I say to myself “Wow, I could have designed the site even better!”

Blackened Sun has been my personal site since 2001. It has gone through many iterations, with the current one being Wordpress-driven. This gave me the chance to initially dabble in using a CMS like wordpress as well as expand my on-and-off blog into a portfolio website, and to be a focal point to my networking. The design and colors were a major change from the previous versions.

My friend Victor’s second web project, he wanted a simple blog to release information about each episode of his radio show, and also to keep fans informed. Another Wordpress-driven blog, I was the one that primarily chose the colors and logo, and just looked to Victor for approval. The colors certainly fit with his show’s name, though, which were why I chose them.

The second Wordpress-driven blog I worked on, the first using the Wordpress.com free account, and the first I helped develop for Victor. I was very constrained with using Wordpress.com instead of a privately hosted site, so I really only got to work with hacks to get things working the way we’d like, only small changes related to the theme were even possible. Images and Buttons were designed by me in a 15-30 minute period. A better version/vision is planned for the near future.

InfoSur Hoy

While working at MPRI, a division of L-3 Communications, I was put in the Lead Developer position of the multiple-language site InfoSur Hoy and worked with a designer. I was brought on during the very early stages of this site. We had a great thing going between the two of us, and we made, in my opinion, one of the best sites for this client’s contract (out of 4 websites).

I was in charge of maintaining this website, as well as to utilize and create any necessary functions and widgets to do what the client has requested. Items of note on this site, would be the Weather and Stock widgets. There’s also a string truncation function that I created to shorten the article descriptions to fit clearly in the static-sized article boxes.

Eventually, the site was brought into a company-built Content Management System, in which I converted my functions into widgets that would be implemented through the CMS.

The site has changed hands as of December 18th, 2009, and has since been updated (for better or worse).

Al-Shorfa

Al-Shorfa was another website being developed by MPRI, this time by my coworker Nicole. I provided my Weather widget for all 4 of the websites we were responsible for in the company, and I also helped with code solutions and bug fixes wherever I could. This was a multiple-language website using no CMS.

The site has changed hands as of December 18th, 2009, and has since been updated (for better or worse).

Central Asia Online

Central Asia Online was yet another website created for MPRI, this time by my coworker Curt, that utilized some of the widgets and functions that I developed for InfoSur Hoy, like the Weather and String Truncation functions. I also, again, aided in fixing bugs and other miscellaneous aspects of the website.

The site has changed hands as of December 18th, 2009, and has since been updated (for better or worse).

That’s all for now!

More Sites will definitely be forthcoming!
